While in the 70s, the picture changed. We were in an environment of high unemployment rate and high inflation. That is called “stagflation”, OK, the economists used to say, er, in the past there is a trade-off between inflation and unemployment. That if you want, er, lower unemployment, you should be ready to accept higher inflation. Or if you want to disinflate, you have to be ready to accept the higher coset in terms of higher unemployment.
